My Mothers Daughter free essay sample

I recollect the Christmas of ‘98. My mom was sobbing by the christmas tree. My sister was as yet an infant at that point and didn't have a clue what was going on. I was befuddled; shouldn’t Christmas be a glad time? That was the first occasion when I understood that my family was blemished. I later discovered that my mother’s explanation behind sobbing was on the grounds that my dad was going through Christmas night with another lady, and numerous different evenings with her also. The picture of my mom crying on that critical night despite everything makes me sad.I was destined to a hoodlum father and a disastrous yet savvy mother; it was sentimental enough yet damaging also. My dad was near to a major honey bee; he pollinated the blossom and left the bloom and two buds alone with just their thistles to shield themselves in an immense and risky world. My folks were separated after my dad demonstrated damaging practices towards my mom. He would acquire cash from obscure gatherings and put her name on their hit rundown of individuals they ought to pursue on the off chance that he stayed away forever the cash. At the point when he did that, it resembled he was marking my name on that rundown. It made me tragic. at the point when I was youthful, my dad removed everything that my mom and I could have lived on (our cash and our home) and chose not to be a major part of my life in any style. He left us with no kid support or any money related help. In this way, I was raised illegitimate by my mom.I was five and waving farewell to a man who was right around a far off reality behind a glass board at the air terminal. I didn't have the foggiest idea where I was going. Also, that was the last I saw of my dad. I was crying at that point. Times were troublesome after my mom and father seperated. There were times when we needed to go to carport deals to get our garments and Goodwill to get canned food. We moved to and from various impermanent homes whose rooms were loaded up with stressed voices late around evening time; loaded up with discussion I couldn't yet comprehend. Supper was frequently a little bit of bread that we got off food stamps. I would take a gander at my mom and realize that she endured and yielded so much to make sure I could live. The idea would fill me with guilt.I was too youthful to even consider feeling humiliated by our circumstance, yet thinking back, I envision how humiliated my mom more likely than not felt. All things considered, I trust it is better that we left my dad. my mom would have experienced a great deal more unnecessary affliction. Time away from him would separate us from the mayhem permit us to develop, to acknowledge the brokenness and separation ourselves from the turmoil and savagery. Without him, love between a wrecked family could bloom once more. In spite of how she was treated by my dad, my mother consistently instructed me to approach others with deference and consideration. My mom, regardless of being beaten and manhandled, didn't get hard yet stayed caring. She was consistently prepared to provide for the individuals who were as heartbreaking or considerably more sad than us. At the point when over and over, I saw my mom (practically poverty stricken) stop her vehicle and lower her window in the downpour, just to give the destitute the next to no she had, I decided to be a student, a provider and an adherent. Quite a while later, in light of her words reverberating, I made a trip to denied Ghana, Africa to endeavor to be my mother’s girl; to think about vagrants and give them that someone on the planet adores them. I was frightened and desolate, without my family and without solaces like running water. All things considered, I went past myself and path outside my usual range of familiarity to connect with youngsters who feel damaged as I did previously and gave them some place on the planet, someone thinks about them. I discovered that they were as a rule genuinely and sincerely mishandled and begged the chief of the volunteer program to take them to a genuine home. I needed them to have a home, something I’ve never I’ve had. I needed to resemble my mom, who, in the wake of suffering such huge numbers of hardships since she needed to help me, didn’t forsake me and gave me love and warmth.Though there was no running water, web, and food was rare, I was reimbursed in full every early morning when the African younger students welcomed me the second I strolled into the school with grins and energy on their appearances. â€Å"Yifu, yifu,† they would state. That was African for â€Å"white people.† I was cheerful and I felt so in contact with the world when I had the option to show these kids basic math, English, and wellbeing data, including guidance in regards to HIV. These were subjects that I was very much familiar with in light of the fact that the U. S. commands that all kids go to class. These were subjects that solitary several these oppressed youngsters knew at all since quality instruction in Africa is saved for kids whose families can manage the cost of it. While the encounters I had at the school for oppressed children made me horrendously mindful of how little these youngsters had, the conditions at the halfway house I was remaining at made meextremely upset. The lady who ran the shelter was amazingly injurious and starved the kids, beat them with shut clench hands, and constrained them into youngster work. I had a few youngsters disclose to me this verbally and I realized they were being honest by the slimness of their bodies. A few youngsters were shielded from going to class to watch out for the shop this lady was benefitting from. At whatever point I came back to the halfway house from school or play, the vagrants would assemble around me and tail me cheerfully and I never knew why. Bit by bit I understood the motivation behind why they were so cheerful at whatever point I was home was on the grounds that this lady couldn’t beat them before me. For those fourteen days until I left for home, I remained by the children’s side consistently, and made it a point to record each and every occasion in my diary. I would go for them on strolls and convey the tiniest on my shoulders. I took care of them my food during supper times. I would utilize my going through cash to get them the food they merited yet never got from their guardian. I needed them to know so seriously that this Yifu from an inaccessible land adored them. What's more, I think they realized that deciding from the grins on their faces. My involvement with Africa opened my eyes. One, it made me fully aware of the fact that I am so fortunate to live in the U.S. furthermore, have individuals who care about me; to have somebody care for you and love you is genuinely an extravagance that not we all can say we have. Two, and all the more significantly, I understood that that there’s a ton of work to be done and a great deal of help to be given. My fantasy is to be a therapist to help individuals with my conditions. School will assist me with getting there. When I was youthful and juvenile, a caring lady instructed me to approach others with deference and generosity. At the point when I was harmed, a benevolent lady put a bandaid on my injury. At the point when I was close to nothing and debilitated, a thoughtful mother was there adjacent to me to check my temperature and hold my hand. Presently, it is my chance to be daring. It’s my chance to clutch the hands of those in obscurity and promise them that they will again come around. I am not the result of a clamorous and fierce relationship; I am my mother’s little girl. My Mothers Daughter free article test There are numerous reactions to the inquiry, what right? I am short; I am beautiful. I am an understudy; I am an educator. I am a sister; I am a grandma. If you somehow managed to ask me that inquiry, I would basically say: I am my mother’s girl. I have her hair, her face, her skin, her energy. I make them compose capacity, albeit most likely not to a similar degree. The entirety of this is mine, however I don't have her. My mom kicked the bucket on April 21st, in 2007. I was innocent and twelve years of age that day. I had no clue pretty much the entirety of the agony I would need to come to acknowledge as I strolled into that emergency clinic room. There had been harsh occasions, as all kids and their moms have, yet I presently realize that the entirety of that was principally because of medication and stress. My definitive saint throughout everyday life, this individual that was so little contrasted with the remainder of the world, was the light in my life and my most adoring nurturer. In this manner, I am, or endeavor to be, who my mom was. My mom was benevolent. Her generosity was so certified and crude, so guileless and delightful, that I don't on the off chance that I will ever contact her level in that viewpoint. She was cherishing, ceaselessly adoring. Also, consequently, everybody adored her, despite the fact that I don't accept that she saw this. Going to teachers’ retirement parties with her, I perceived how everybody appeared to rotate around her express effortlessness and excellence. Her benevolence and charitableness indicated like a light. She was, truly, the sun that pulled everybody in and demonstrated a light on them as well. She was affable as a matter of course, consistently charitable and thoughtful. She made a decent attempt for me. Other than her maladies that I had no information on, her age held her back from being one of the dynamic, youthful moms that I saw. I can see the entirety of this now since knowing the past is, for sure, consistently 20/20. I know such huge numbers of a greater number of aspects of my mom now than I did when she was alive. Her boundless generosity, even to those that she didn't care for, was one feature. Her feeling of family and love for them is another. I saw this with the amount she attempted to demonstrate impassion to my grandma, however the amount she extremely simply needed endorsement. The week that my grandma passed my mom cried and became like a little young lady once more, the misfortune hitting her hard. Hamlet Foils free essay sample

Many playwrights utilize foils to assist the audience in deeply understanding the meaning of a play or the motivations of the characters . Foils are minor characters that have similarities or differences with a major character. Often the minor character is in the play so that the major character has someone to speak with. The similarities between the foil and the major are typically gender, same social class, or being in the same situation. The differences between the two may be an important aspect in their character. In his play Hamlet, William Shakespeare uses the Ghost, Laertes, and to foil Prince Hamlet and help define his character for different points. The Ghost of Hamlets father is a foil for Hamlet. The ghost is featured in the play for two large reasons: establishing the conflict, showing a supernatural improbability to Hamlets character, and giving Hamlet someone to speak with. The ghost gives the information of how he died and who committed the murder. We will write a custom essay sample on Hamlet Foils or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page While Hamlet is talking with the ghost, he becomes very angry with his mother and uncle. He decides he wants revenge from Claudius for the murder of his father. Both Hamlet and the ghost believe Claudius should pay for what he has done, although neither do anything about it. Among others, one similarity between the ghost and Hamlet is that they remain in the same social class. Along with similarities, Hamlet and the ghost have a few significant differences that contrast Hamlet. The ghost was murdered before the beginning of the play; however, Hamlet dies at the end of the play while he was fighting with Laertes. When Hamlet and his father talked about his mother, he said he wanted to punish her for what she has done. The ghost told him to leave his mother alone and that she would eventually be punished. The ghost said it was fine for Hamlet to go after Claudius. Hamlet was mad at his mother for marrying his uncle and the fact that she did not wait long enough after her husbands death. The ghost helps to explain why Hamlet wants revenge. Laertes is another foil for Hamlet. A strong reason that Laertes was in the play is so that Hamlet would have someone to fight at the end of the play. Both Hamlet and Laertes want revenge for their fathers death: Laertes contrarily wants revenge from Hamlet. Hamlet killed Polonius by accident when he was in his mothers bedroom because he thought it was the king. Hamlet and Laertes love Laertes sister Ophelia. Both are very distraught over her death. When Laertes finds out, he is mad and really wants to kill Hamlet. Laertes blames Hamlet for the death. Hamlet did not want anything to happen to her because he told her they could not be together. He was afraid he would turn out to be just like the rest of his family. Laertes and Hamlet have a few differences between them. Their disposition throughout the play was very different. Once Hamlet found out who murdered his father he started to act very strange. He wanted everyone to believe he was going crazy so they would not know what he was up to. Everyone began to believe that there was something wrong with him. Laertes did not hide his true feelings. When he found out about his father, he was very angry. He wanted Hamlet to pay for what he had done. Another difference between the two was their locations during the play. Hamlet was in the play from the beginning. Laertes was in Paris and did not show up until after his fathers death.

PRINCESS DIANA 2nd part Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

PRINCESS DIANA 2nd part - Essay Example Also, cultural variables relevant not only to Britain but also to the entire world were reflected in her personality, also certain expectations were naturally associated with her (Mattern 2006). Also, being a courageous woman, the factor of gender also added in to maintain her leadership style per se and managed to positively affect her followers` base. The concept of gender also created chaos in her life as the conspiracy theories associated with her character were quite intense in nature. There is no second opinion on the fact that Lady Diana had quite a charisma in her character, which made her one of the most charming yet influential women in the world. The transformational phases overriding her life, and her inclination toward the ordinary lifestyle despite the royalty makes her distinct from other leaders. Leadership Member Exchange View theory implies that the leaders impact the followers via direct and indirect interactions, and the followers are influenced by the persona and beliefs of the leaders. Personal Charisma, involvement in the personal affairs of the followers, concern with the issues of the people and the understanding of the popular culture of the society are a few must-have traits possessed by the leaders portraying LMX approach (Kippenberg 2002). Lady Diana clearly possesses these traits as she had quite a charming personality and a kind heart. She was deeply concerned with those less well off in the society, and took issues pertaining in the society with dire seriousness. Her interaction patterns with the common people helped her connect well with the followers, owing to which the masses were very fond of her. Thus, she didn`t have to exercise power tactics to influence other, in fact her character was impactful enough for her followers. Similarly, Transformational Le adership style deals with the positive transformation of the followers by virtue of effective leadership,

Buddhism in China and Japan Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Buddhism in China and Japan - Essay Example On the contrary, it believes that change is normal and in order for a person to attain a state of spiritual satisfaction he has to act morally and follow the teachings that are designed to help him live through his lifelong worries without any confusion. There are two major sects established all over the world, Theravada Buddhism and Mahayana Buddhism. Emperor Asoka the Great embraced Buddhism after the war of Kalinga. In the third century, he made efforts to spread the word of Buddhism and sent missionaries to the North West region of India, which is Pakistan and Afghanistan of today. Out of the many religions established in China at that time, Taoism was one of them. Due to similarities in the Taoist teachings and Buddhism, in terms of spirituality and meditation, the concept was welcomed well by the Chinese and soon it became widely practiced by the people. In the sixth century, the message of Buddhism reached Korea and Japan. Buddhist scriptures were translated extensively all over the world. Due to historical and sociological reasons, Buddhist practices in China differ from those in Japan. Zen is a form of meditation proposed by Buddhism. However, the ways to attain the state of nirvana are different in both China and Japan. Besides, Japanese have merged this religion with that of the prevailing Shinto, which involves the inc lusion of several gods. This is not the case in China, where the concept of God in Buddhism is absent. However, the main beliefs remain the same. Only the means to achieve the goal are

Case Studies on Architectural Design Methodologies

Case Studies on Architectural Design Methodologies How We Build: The Parts and the Whole Precedent Case Studies The two philosophies introduced above, mechanism and systems thinking, have influenced many aspects of our lives. One can arguably note their influences in our built environment, as can be seen in the variety of design methodologies present in architectural design. Both academics and practitioners in the design field have often argued that the architectural practice can be classified as a holistic enterprise. This argument is founded on the fact that many players have a key role in the process of designing a building: the architect, the client, the consultants, the engineers, the planners, the builders and so on. In this context, holism does indeed propel an all-inclusive design process realized as a result of the many members collaborating on a given project. In fact, this trait is even said by many to be unique to architecture as a profession. However, when analyzing the conventional design methodologies employed in architecture, one cannot ignore the hierarchical and sequential separation of design, detailing, documentation, modeling and fabrication that has become prevalent in todays day and age. This type of hierarchical separation and compartmentalization of processes can be seen in many aspects of design, but more specifically between material, form and structure. In order to explain this phenomenon more clearly, two built architectural projects have been chosen for analysis based on these two ideologies in architecture. Analyzing the two built examples below may shed more light on the ways in which machine thinking and systems thinking have influenced architectural design philosophies and methodologies. The first project is considered by many as being the most contemporary technological application of timber construction. The second project was completed approximately three decades ago and continues to be an inspirational precedent regarding the use the inherent material properties of wood, specifically Tiber. Distinguishing between these two projects and their approaches is of great relevance to this research. The aim is not to assess the two projects with the intention of promoting one over the other, but rather to identify the contrasting design methodologies. For this comparison, the focus will lie namely on the design and realization of the roof structures. The inspiration for the roof of the Centre Pompidou in Metz, designed by Shigeru Ban, Jean de Gastines and Ove Arup Partners, was a traditional Japanese straw hat (ill.3). The form that resulted from this inspiration was based on two components: a specified freeform surface with a hexagonal edge, and a flat, kagome lattice consisting of triangles and hexagons that is projected onto the free-form surface. The lattice structural grid was developed using digital processes such as CAD software (ill.4). The digital model created from this step was then developed into a highly complex geometric construction in which every element of the structure was unique in its curvature and shape. The digital form-giving process was used only to establish the geometry of the roof structure. Following this design phase, engineers and consultants working in the realm of computer-based geometry optimized the design of the structure and rendered it buildable. The actual physical construction of this roof structure involved a series of glue-lam girders arranged in three layers (ill.5). Each of these girders is comprised of several segments, fastened to one another in order to achieve the curved appearance of the girders. In total, the entire roof assembly is made up of 1,790 segments, which were classified into three categories (straight, single curved, double curved) (ill.6). The 1,790 individual segments were fabricated by a computerized numerical control (CNC) joinery machine. In order to achieve the final form of the structure, it was necessary to mill away fifty percent of each individual glue-lam beam to obtain the required building component geometry (ill7). In the next phase of the project, the individual components making up the complex geometry of the roof were transported from the fabrication shop with trucks and were assembled incrementally using scaffolding and cranes to make up the final form of the structure (ill.8). This project followed a relatively linear flow of data, beginning with the initial design inspiration, and working up towards a formal design, the development of a CAD model, the refinements and optimization achieved by engineers in rationalizing the process, and finally ending with the computer aided manufacturing of the highly specified components. A similarly linear approach then took place on site for the duration of the incremental assembly process. Overall, this design approach is a direct reflection of mechanistic ideologies. The second project is the â€Å"Multihalle† located in Mannheim and designed by Frei Otto, Carlfried Mutschler, and Ove Arup and Partners (1975). Like the Centre Pompidou this project consists of a double-curved lattice shell, but the design was not the result of a form-giving process (ie. one in which the form was pre-conceived by the designer and a structural system was developed to actualize the form). Instead, this project consists of a more integrated form-finding process informed by material experimentation, material behaviours and constraints along with an extensive series of models and prototyping. It is important to note that the form finding process for the Multihalle involved upside-down hanging chain models (ill.10). This was important because it allowed the architects to determine the three-dimensional geometry of the shell. These models were especially effective in creating pure tension shapes due to gravitys pull on the chains. When an appropriate geometry was a chieved, the model was then inverted to create a pure compression shell. This resulted in a geometry that was structurally stable, devoid of in-plane shear stresses in the lattice structure. In the development of this project, the lattice shell structure was based on two fundamental questions: 1) Could a shell structure be constructed with a tensile uniform mesh and be capable of supporting its own weight without buckling and causing no moment bending? 2) Could a shell structure be constructed using the natural bending properties of wood laths, which were initially assembled as a flat system? The structure of Multihalle is called a grid shell. A grid shell is a double curved surface formed from a lattice of timber laths bolted together at uniform spacing in two directions.†[1] There are two types of lattice shells systems: strained and unstrained. The difference between strained and unstrained shells is that the unstrained shells are made of pre-bent members. In the unstrained shell, curved members experience no strain during the erection process because they have been previously curved to the desired shape. This method was used for the Centre Pompidou in Metz. The Multihall shell structure however, consists of a strained lattice shell, comprised of a 2 double-layer wooden lath system, assembled flat in a square diagrid pattern (ill.11). The initially flat grid is held together by pinned joints (ill.12) that permit the laths to move parallel to one another (ill.13). This allows the grid one degree of movement when flat. However, once the structure is erected and the grid takes on the double-curved geometry of the shell, the forces will deform the square grids into parallelograms (ill.14). In this manner, the structural web can take on specific forms by changing key parameters in the assembly such as scissor-like deformation, adjustable pins, cambering and edge definition of the system. As a result of this double curved design, the members increase in strength and stiffness.[2] Erecting the shell on site required that the entire flat system be lifted at a number of key points with the aid of cranes. Once the web was lifted at these points, the network of wood laths naturally took on the desired geometry due to the flexible bending behaviour of the continuous wood members and the deformation of the network (ill.14). The systems joint connections were then tightened to obtain shear-resistant connections that would maintain the desired shape of the structure (ill.15). Next, steel cable ties were added to provide diagonal stiffness to the shell (ill.16). The grid shell was then fastened to the substructure at specified support points, thereby stabilizing the complex roof The critical difference between these two projects is that one was designed and geometrically defined by the designer and subsequently rationalized for construction, while the other was a result of an extensive form-finding process based on material behaviours, experimentation and structural behaviours. The Centre Pompidou is often referred to as a state-of-art, digitally designed wood construction project. It required six layers of glue-lam beams with cross section of 140 x 440 mm to achieve a 50m clear span. In addition, it was necessary that 50 percent of the glue-lam material be milled off during the CNC fabrication process in order to achieve the desired shape of each member. In contrast, the double layered grid of the Multihalle in Mannheim spans up to 60m and consists of members that only measure 50 x 50 mm in cross section. As a result, the â€Å"Multihalle† project emerged as a grid shell that was extremely cost-effective and material efficient. It also proved much ea sier to construct than many of todays contemporary lattice structures like the Centre Pompidou in Metz. The intention of this comparison is to demonstrate the differences which exist between these two design methodologies. One is the digital continuation of the long-standing hierarchical process in which form-giving takes precedence over rationalization. The other concerns a design process which undergoes constant transformations due to an integrated and informed approach that can anticipate the possibilities of materialization. Frei Otto’s work with lightweight structures as well as the design methodologies employed in his projects serve as exemplary precedents in demonstrating the theory and design methodologies adopted in this research. Similar to Frei Ottos approach, this research will propose a lightweight structural system that seeks to incorporate an integrative approach to form-finding using the material properties and behaviours of wood. In order to fully understand the capabilities of this material, the following chapter explores the material science and characteristics of wood. Criticism of Capitalism in The Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald Essay

Criticism of Capitalism in The Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald      Ã‚  Ã‚   In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald creates an artificial world where money is the object of everyone's desire.   The characters, the setting, and the plot are very deeply submerged in a Capitalism that ends up destroying many of them.   Fitzgerald's criticism of Capitalism can be seen as a move to subtly promote Socialism, an ideology in which value is placed on the inherent value of an object rather than its market value.   In a late collection of notes, Fitzgerald himself proclaims that he is "essentially Marxist." [i]  Ã‚   Marxism is a specific branch of Socialist theory.   Fitzgerald makes Gatsby a novel that is not inherently Marxist or even Socialist, but one that is imbued with Marxist theory.   He does this by denouncing nonhumanitarianism, reification, and market value.   Fitzgerald implies that the Capitalist system does not work because at the end of the novel, all of the characters that represent typical American Capitalism end up eit her dead or completely unhappy.   Fitzgerald's criticisms work to warn 1920's Americans of their behavior and how destructive it can be.       Marxists believe very firmly in humanitarianism; they believe that as humans, we should look out for each other and care for each other, because we are all essentially on the same level.   All of the characters in Gatsby nullify this idea, because they all use each other.   For instance, Gatsby uses Nick to set up a meeting between he and Daisy.   The characters also place very little value on individual human beings or on humanity as a whole.   Each character is too wrapped up in him/herself that he/she does not take the time to care for others.   Class levels are pr... ... Over the years the research has become more specific in terms of different types of eating disorder as well as the impact that it has on multiple areas of life. For the first article I researched a topic which was first coined by the author Margo Maine, that topic is â€Å"Father Hunger†.This topic addresses the relationship between an adolescent female and the bond with her father and depending on the factors of the relationship the female is either more prone to developing an eating disorder or not. Although there was a large amount of articles available the further down the list I searched the keywords became less relevant however I kept the theme of eating disorders constant throughout my search. I had a few issues while completing this assignment one being that I was unable to find an electronic resource such as a webcast for my topic. I tried to advance my search in different ways while keeping consist ent with the topic and was not successful. The other issue that I ran into is that I was not able to type within the chart that was provided which is why the information is listed below. In order to make it easier to read I made the type of resource in bold print to help separate it out. The Leadership Style Of A Veterans - 1451 Words

The majority of humanity proceeds through life at an unfluctuating or even mundane pace. It is not until we experience a noteworthy event in our personal or professional lives that, we pause and contemplate the impact. For some individuals, this crucible event provides clarity to the point that life becomes more meaningful. For others, the impact of the experience alters the course of their life forever. I experienced such an event in my professional life during a moment in which an elderly World War II Veteran quietly revealed to me that unassuming heroes inconspicuously walk among the rest of us every day. This realization forged within me a sense of duty, purpose, and values, which has strongly influenced my leadership style. I†¦show more content†¦The ship on which the Veteran served was in close proximity to the attack and therefore, diverted course and raced ahead to perform rescue operations. Upon arrival, the Veteran described a gruesome and horrifying scene of bodies floating in the water among the debris of the wreckage. The men on the rescue ship immediately set out to rescue the remaining survivors at the scene. The Veteran described having a long rope or strap tied round his waist and his shipmates repeatedly lowering him over the side of the ship throughout the night in order to locate survivors among the debris and floating corpses. The Veteran reported that he and his shipmates repeated this process person by person and hour after hour until the rescues were, completed. The Veteran reported this as being not only physically demanding work, but mentally taxing as well. As the Veteran shared his story, I could not help but notice his frail, elderly wife sitting in a chair beside him. She beamed with pride as he recounted the events of that night and clung to his arm ever so tightly. At that moment, I realized that she beheld him as that young, handsome man t hat she had married decades earlier, and I could almost see her eyes erase the years and feebleness that had taken a toll upon his body. The story that I heard through watching that video and through the oral history provided by the Veteran profoundly influenced me and served as a crucible experience. I

Therapeutic Nursing Healthcare Service

Question: Discuss about the Therapeutic Nursingfor Healthcare Service. Answer: Introduction The relationship between a nurse and a patient should be therapeutic. Therapeutic relationship refers to a helping alliance between the healthcare provider and the patient. Whenever a patient seeks for medical services, the patient should be adequately attended to by the practitioner. For a practitioner to succeed in serving the patient, they should be ready to establish a good working relationship with the patient. Healthcare service delivery is quite complex and does not only involve medical attention, but also encompasses the manner in which the whole process is handled. Communication is a very powerful tool that should be effectively applied by the healthcare provider. Therapeutic care is essential in nursing because of the contributions it makes in the delivery of holistic care to the patients. However, for a nurse to deliver a therapeutic care, the nurse should possess fundamental therapeutic communication skills. The purpose of the paper is to analyze the benefits, features, a nd effective implementation of therapeutic skills in nursing care. Characteristics and Implementation of Therapeutic Care Therapeutic skills are fundamental in nursing care. It can make great contributions in nursing. First, it can help in creating a good rapport between the practitioner and the patient. A healthy relationship between the two is good in health care. Besides, it can help in improving the quality of healthcare services. Therapeutic approach can help in winning the confidence of the patient and creating a good reputation of the healthcare provider and organization at large (Momani Berry, 2017). Last, but not least, therapeutic nursing can play a significant role in improving the quality of services. It can give room to the healthcare provider to deliver a holistic care to satisfy the patients physical, psychological, and spiritual needs (Anderson, et al., 2016). Therapeutic care is characterized by trust, empathy, acceptance, positive regard, and self-acceptance. These are techniques that should be possessed and perfectly applied by a therapist as outline herein. Trust Trust is one of the most outstanding characteristics of therapeutic care. Trust simply refers to the process of winning the confidence of an individual. Healthcare delivery involves two parties: the patient and practitioner. For the services provided to be effective in resolving the health issues, there must be a mutual trust between the two parties. Since the patient has trusted the healthcare provider with his life, it should be the responsibility of the practitioner to ensure that the confidence of the patient is won. The patient should be made to have a feeling that the needs are addressed by as expected (Knapp, Vangelisti Caughlin, 2014). The nurse should win the confidence of the patient by taking a number of measures. To begin with, the nurse needs to be friendly because it can appeal to the client and make him be happy with the service. At the same time, the nurse should not fail to show that she has excellent skills in caring, understanding, and listening. These skills can also make the patient to be contented with the nurse because of the satisfaction that the nurse is committed to fulfilling the patients needs (Braithwaite Schrodt, 2014). The other skill that should be applied when winning the trust of the patient is honesty, approachability, and politeness. Lastly, the nurse should use her listening and persuasion skills to appeal to the patient. The nurse should effectively apply these skills because their proper implementation can guarantee the success of therapeutic care. Acceptance Acceptance is another attribute that should be applied when delivering therapeutic care to the patient. The nurse should always agree to serve all sorts of clients irrespective of their difference. Healthcare services can only be successful if provided in a conducive environment for the patient and practitioner. Before delivering therapeutic care to the patients, the nurse should be ready to deal with different kinds of patients each of whom having unique needs to be addressed. Some patients are so unpredictable and difficult to handle (Dawson, Bernstein, Wilkins Bekki, 2015). However, the nurse should not tire from serving any kind of the patient because they all have essential health needs to be met. All the patients should be unconditionally accepted because none of them can be contented with the services if they feel unaccepted. The principle of acceptance can be implemented by encouraging the nurse to be diverse and tolerant. The nurse should be a flexible professional who is ready to handle all sorts of clients from different cultural, racial, and geographical, gender, age, behavioral, cognitive, and ethnic diversities. Each of these patients not only has specific needs, but unique beliefs, values, and views that should be understood, respected, tolerated, and acceptance no matter how strange some might be. Therefore, when confronted with such a situation, the nurse should not be overwhelmed whatsoever. Instead, the nurse should accept and serve each of the patients the way they are (Bylund, Peterson Cameron, 2012). The nurse should adopt a therapeutic approach that shows recognition, approval, respect, and acceptance of the diversities. At no time should the nurse use defamatory words. Instead, only positive words such as welcome, thank you, I understand, I appreciate should be used when attending to the patients no matter what kind of feelings the nurse has towards them. Empathy Therapeutic care is characterized by empathy. Empathy refers to the ability of a nurse to understand and the feelings and meaning of the patient and effectively communicate it to the patient. Empathy is very much different from sympathy because it entails a deeper felling of ones needs, but not necessarily undergoing similar experiences. Meaning, nurse who is empathetic towards the patient should be ready to put herself in the shoes of the patient. Empathy can be a beneficial strategy if applied in nursing care (Gutgsell, et al., 2013). It can enable the nurse to be properly acquainted with the needs of the patient before taking the necessary measures to address them. Empathy can be implemented by taking time to understand all the needs and feelings of the client. Each and every client has unique needs that they need to be satisfied. Therefore, it should be the responsibility of the nurse to wear the patients shoes so as to have a proper knowledge of what the patient is going through. After understanding the needs and feelings of the client, the nurse should go ahead to take up the measures the can positively influence the patient. Here, the nurse should use her skills to empower the patient to feel much better regardless of the challenges faced (Craig, 2013). The positive influence of the nurse is essential during nursing care because it can make the patient to have a feeling that their needs are understood and something is done about them. An effective application of empathy can therefore be relied upon to ensure that the patient is properly supported to improve the condition. Self-Awareness Self-awareness is an attribute that cannot be left out when outlining the features of therapeutic care. It simply refers to ability to be self-conscious-having an understanding of oneself. Self-awareness is one of the core skills of a nurse. Al nurses should have a sound knowledge of their own capabilities, strengths, background, interests, and perceptions. It can help in providing a therapeutic care to the patient because the skill can enable the healthcare provider to be an informed expert who does not let her personality differences to hinder the delivery of services to the patients (Thompson, Fahs Kell, 2016). Many nurses have failed to provide holistic therapeutic care to the patients because they lack self knowledge which is of course essential in understanding the patients and the healthcare set up in general. The concept of self-awareness can be implemented by making deliberate efforts to understand ones attributes and personality differences. A nurse who is committed to delivering a therapeutic care should carry out an objective self-reflection so as to have a sound knowledge of herself. During this process, the nurse should critique her own values, beliefs, opinion, limitations, strengths, prejudices, motivations, feelings, and attitudes (Arnold Boggs, 2015). Once al these are properly understood, the nurse can be put in a better position to understand the patients. The skills identified should be used to establish a good relationship with the patient. It is commendable to begin the process from self-reflection because if the nurse understands herself better, she cannot find many difficulties in understanding and addressing the needs of each and every client. Clients need to be addressed differently because they have diverse needs that cannot be adequately met by relying on only one ap proach. Conclusion Nursing is a tasking profession because it requires the practitioners to have a moral obligation of attending to the clients and meeting their needs. However, this is always challenging because each client has diverse needs. One way of addressing this difficulty is by providing a therapeutic care. Here, the healthcare provider should be ready to establish a cordial and healthy relationship with the patient. To do so, the nurse should deeply understand and perfectly apply the principles of trust, empathy, acceptance, positive regard, and self-acceptance. Therapeutic care can be beneficial because it enhances the quality of services delivered to the patients. References Anderson, J. G., et al., (2016). Making Of A Writer Essays - English-language Films, Little Women

Making of A Writer Annonymous In 1868, Louisa May Alcott wrote the book Little Women in response to a publisher's request for a 'girl's book'. Louisa wrote this book by calling upon her own memories of her childhood and putting them down on paper. This is the story of four young girls, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March, and how they endure all the trouble and hardships that come along during their lives. They are raised by their mother and by their father, and many interesting characters pop up along the way, such as Laurie, their good-natured next-door neighbor; Laurie later falls in love with Jo but ends up marrying Amy. In the beginning of the story they are all fairly young, the youngest being twelve years old, and their mother, whom they call Marmee, is left to guide them while their father is away fighting in the war. As they grow and mature, they learn many hard lessons about life. For instance, there was the time when Amy, the youngest, suffered her first punishment in school. She carries that anger, humility, and embarrassment with her for the rest of her life. There were also more serious lessons to be learned, like when one of the sisters, Beth, dies. By the end of the book, they really have turned from little women into real women. Jo was the second oldest of the four sisters. Her birth name was Josephine, but she always thought that it sounded too feminine, so she shortened it to Jo. Clearly, Jo was one of the main characters of the story because many of the events centered on her and the audience learned more about who she was. She was a tomboy at heart and hated all the prim and proper ways of the ladies in those days. Jo was very blunt in her speaking and always said exactly what was on her mind. However, most people felt right at ease speaking with her because she had a way of making them feel comfortable, despite her frankness. Jo was the one who first had enough courage to go over to the frightening house next door and talk with the Laurence Boy, whom they knew as Laurie after that, and became the best of friends with him. Despite that one good trait, Jo has an uncontrollable temper that can erupt at any time. This is quite evident one day when Amy burns one of Jo's most precious items-a book that she wrote stories in and had for years. She is so outraged that she cannot even look Amy in the face and storms out of the house. Jo then watches as Amy follows her and Laurie outside to a pond to go ice-skating. Laurie warns Jo that the ice is very thin in the middle, but Amy does not hear him and proceeds to skate into the center. Jo does nothing to stop her. Amy almost died that day, and Jo realized that her selfishness and anger almost cost her her own sister. Mrs. March then teaches Jo how to control her temper, and that was one of the most valuable lessons she ever learned. Jo has the ability to see things as they are. She can see through any kind of facade, and she will never put up a facade of her own. As they say in France, 'Elle est la cr?me de la cr?me'. She is the best of the best. Another character that is very important yet was not seen very much was Mrs. March, the girls' mother. Mrs. March was a very emotionally strong woman who would give up anything for someone else. She is very aware of how her daughters are feeling. Their father is at war, and they no longer have the money that they once had. Mrs. March makes sure that her children count the blessings that they do have and that they do not complain. Continuously yearning for more makes one unappreciative of what he already has. She demands authority, yet is gentle as a small mouse. She is actually both father and mother to the girls because although her husband does come home later in the book, he is rarely seen. Mrs. March and Jo are actually quite alike. They both have spitfire tempers, and they both know how to get their point across tactfully. Mrs. March provides wisdom and advice and guides her daughters down the straight and narrow path toward happy and fulfilling lives. There are two themes to this book. The first one is that family is

Professionalism Essay Example

Professionalism Essay Example Professionalism Essay Professionalism Essay Over the last two hundred years nursing has changed on so dramatically In so many ways. While I was researching for this paper I had a hard time choosing Just five changes but I did narrow it down to: job duties, public image, education standards, nurse patient ratios, and technology. Job duties: This one I found so very interesting; we have come so far. Nurses were first known as handmaidens. Their role was limited to doing exactly what the doctor told them. Typical duties included: cleaning of the patients areas, sweep/mop floors, making beds, laundry, giving patients food, help patients in/out of bed, and occasionally help with bandages. Nurses in the sasss were a lot like a maid In my opinion. Today nurses are a lot more Involved in the patients actual care. The nurses duties include assessments, development of a nursing plan, patient/family teaching, medication education, and many other hands on duties. Nurses are given a lot of responsibility today, they are no longer the doctors handmaiden. Public Image: The public Image of a nurse has changed, In my pollen, for the better In recent years. From all the reading I did while researching for this paper it almost sounded as if this was a job that woman who could find a husband would have, or maybe Just until they found a husband. If fact, for many years nurses were not allowed to be married or have children as it was thought these would be a distraction. Nursing has become a highly respected profession today. Nurses are viewed as more than the doctors handmaiden by society. Nurses are highly educated professional who advocate for their patients. According to Gallup poll, nursing has been rated the number 1 for honesty and ethical standards for the 1 lath year in a row. Education Standards: In the sasss medical training throughout the United States was still largely through apprenticeships. In 1860, Florence Nightingale founded the first professional nurse training school in England. I think this was the start for the push in the united States as well. Dorothy Dixie fought for women to be allowed to treat men during the Civil War. At first there were certain parameters, but those soon went by the wayside as the need for nurses increased. Throughout this time the education required was increasing as well. In 1873, the first educational programs for nurses in the United States were established in New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. The education requirements today are much higher. Some employers will accept two year degree but more and more a moving to require a four year degree. These degrees are meant to make sure the nurse Is well educated In many areas. Nurses now are expected to now when an order, medication, or dosage Is wrong and be able to effectively communicate that with the doctor to ensure the patient receives the best possible care. Nurse to Patient ratio: Until ten very late Into ten early z nurse to patient orators were completely unregulated. Only thirteen states currently have legislation about staffing ratios and those laws are very vague. Nurse to patient ratios are important for so many reasons. A few of those reasons are safety for the patient as well as the nurse, quality of care given to the patient and patient satisfaction. Technology: Technology has changed the face of nursing dramatically. Gone are the days of black and red pens, along with paper orders and written MARs. Patients are assigned a MR. (medical record number); this number will bring up all of their medical records that are within that specific health system. If a patient signs the Care Everywhere consent, certain health systems can link to each other. This technology gives providers a greater look into the patients history. This is Just a small touch on the many ways nursing has changed in the last two hundred years.
